Third grade eye sketches

This is a portrait project that my third graders are beginning.
All the students will start their project the same way, by learning how
to draw the eyes, nose and mouth of a human proportionately.
Here is the demonstration I did for the class on the white board.

Here is the artist example, and the beginning of my example of the portrait project.

I began to look through the students' drawings when I realized that
just the drawings of the eyes created a very interesting example of positive and negative space.

It felt as if the eyes created a portrait all by themselves.
